When the Clock Stops. by choreographer Brandon Maxwell is a powerful new 20-minute dance work that delves into the complex relationship between human beings and time. Time is both a constant presence in our lives and an elusive force that is difficult to understand. Sometimes it appears as if we have all the time in the world; other times it feels as if our present day is slipping away from us quickly. In this work, dancers navigate moments of stillness and chaos, reflecting the ways we measure, chase, and resist the passage of time. Blending multiple genres of dance together, Maxwell’s choreography blurs the lines between past, present, and future—transforming the stage into a world where time fractures, stretches, and slips through our grasp. When the Clock Stops. invites audiences to pause, reflect, and ask: what happens when time, as we know it, disappears?
